In the beginning…

… there was a need for a home defense firearm. With this in mind, and some trade-ables (and cash) in hand, I set off to find a suitable home defense armament.

Ideas like this never actually follow a set path (as much as we would like), and this particular attempt certainly did NOT follow the route I hoped it would. But the end result should be just as appealing (or maybe even more so) then the intended destination. Funny how it works like that sometimes…

Hence, I returned home with a Remington 870 Express shotgun – bone stock, slightly used and with a 28 inch barrel. My total cost for this firearm is well under $100.  The price was most pleasing, of course, but this initial configuration is far from what I would consider to be my ideal home defense shotgun – particularly the long hunting barrel. And yes, I knew it wasn’t a paragon at the time of purchase…

… but I also knew that there were a plethora of factory and aftermarket parts and accessories that were (and are) available for the Remington 870 Express – enough to transform this classic hunting shotgun into what I would consider to be a simple and reliable home defense firearm.

And THIS is the purpose of this website – to render, for those interested, a window into this firearm’s transformation.

I hope you enjoy what follows…
